Let the game begin!
Once in a while come a time when social barriers are broken down and people rejoice as a community. Where strangers can bond as friends and past misdeeds are forgotten. When the rich and powerful have equal opportunity with the poor and powerless.
Of course I am talking about The World Cup.
It’s amazing how the event transform the daily lives. If Italian are crazy about football in usual period, then they are even more passionate about it during World Cup. Almost every conversation must include the game, regardless of age.
The students at my dormitory watched together the game last night in the presentation room with wide screen. Imagine to have an in-house sport bar with out the bartender/servants. Italy is in a difficult group with Holland and Czech (also with USA, but they are not a serous contender). To make things worse, the runner up of this group is most likely will face Brazil (no reason to expect them to be runner up in their group).
Yesterday USA lost 3-0 to Czech and Italy won 2-0 to Ghana. It’s good to see skill and creativity triumph over wealth and diplomatic clout. A truly equal playing field.
If only the real world could be more like football.
