Yogyakarta

Pulang ke kotamu
Ada setangkup haru dalam rindu
Masih seperti dulu
Tiap sudut menyapaku bersahabat, penuh selaksa makna
Terhanyut aku akan nostalgi
Saat kita sering luangkan waktu
Nikmati bersama
Suasana Jogja
Di persimpangan langkahku terhenti
Ramai kaki lima
Menjajakan sajian khas berselera
Orang duduk bersila
Musisi jalanan mulai beraksi
Seiring laraku kehilanganmu
Merintih sendiri
Ditelan deru kotamu ...
Reff:
Walau kini kau t'lah tiada tak kembali
Namun kotamu hadirkan senyummu abadi
Ijinkanlah aku untuk s'lalu pulang lagi
Bila hati mulai sepi tanpa terobati

The Poor-Mature-Rich-Saint

Have you ever watched one of Shirley Temple movies (while she is a child)? There is one with title of Poor Little Rich Girl, where she played a rich girl that is lonely and sad (thus, poor in emotional sense).

There is also Poor-Mature-Rich-Saint (sunan) in Indonesia where those ascetic and pious people fight against adornment of grave (from good luck to lottery number) and campaign for direct relation with God. But later when they died, their grave become the object of the very practice they detested.

St Francis of Assisi is another tragic figure in that line. During his life, he preached for simple and ascetic life. Jesus have no property, as he like to remind people around. Barefooted and monk-clothed (now I now the friar in Robin Hood is a Franciscan), he is an anomaly to organized religion of his time with all the elegant churches and extravagant lifestyle.

But after his death, the sentiment of the moment prevailed. The people and the ecclesial honored him the only way they know… by building a mighty and grand basilica (that I enjoy visited last weekend). Truly a crown jewels of shining city on a hill.

Will he approve?

I don’t know. But his short prayer surely contain all more wisdom than all the castles in the world.

Lord, make me an instrument of thy peace.
Where there is hatred, let me show love.
Where there is injury, pardon.
Where there is doubt, faith.
Where there is despair, let me send hope.
Where there is darkness, light.
Where there is sadness, let me bring joy
Where there is darkness, let me bring light
